Some places to visit in the Pitlochry Area

Having found an incredible late deal in Pitlochry, it’s time to work out what to see and do.

The fresh air and bright colours of the Perthshire landscape are an unbeatable attraction as we move through the seasons. Here we have the welcoming prospect of a day or two just sharing what nature has to provide, at its very best level. We have an abundance of information about walks, hikes and trails around Pitlochry and places to visit by vehicle.

Another key point about Perthshire’s country tapestry is the woodland that makes up ‘Big Tree Country’. Interesting, mixed forestry plantations and rugged mountain terrain provide a perfect home for a variety of wildlife and a wonderful backdrop against which to spot them.

Perthshire boasts a number of Nature Reserves and protected areas for you to visit during your Spring Break. These include Loch of the Lowes Nature Reserve and the Hermitage near Dunkeld.  The Tay Forest Park is a wonderfully varied patchwork of forests which stretches across the most scenic parts of Highland Perthshire. It features some of the country’s best loved viewpoints and tallest trees and is rich in wildlife and historical interest.

    Queen’s view

One of the stunning viewpoints in the Tay Forest Park, enjoys views over Loch Tummel to Schiehallion. It shares the same location as the Allean Forest, where you will find where you’ll find an 18th century farmstead and ruined Pictish ring fort.

    Ben Lawers

This popular Nature Reserve overlooks Loch Tay. Britain’s 10th highest mountain, Ben Lawers, 1214m, is well-known for its unique range of mountain plants. The soft calcareous rock creates a fertile soil that supports fabulous, scarce arctic alpine plants such as forget-me-not, the exquisite gentian, and striking purple saxifrage. Later pink cushions of moss campion brighten the slopes. Birds include raven, ring-ouzel, red grouse, the rare sub-arctic ptarmigan, capercaillie, dipper and curlew.

    Blair Atholl

From time to time, you come across a little bundle of surprises all wrapped up in a tiny location. Blair Atholl is just one place. This delightful hamlet is just a few miles from Pitlochry and is home to Blair Castle and the Atholl Country Life Museum. Beyond the Castle car park, you can visit the gardens which are a thrill. Additionally, you’ll find miles of stunning Perthshire scenery through which to  meander to your heart’s content. A little further along the stunning Perthshire country road that runs through, is the House of Bruar and Waterfalls. Killiecrankie Visitor Centre admirably informs of the sometimes bloodthirsty history of the are and its more peaceful natural qualities
