Firstly, folk, once having settled into their Pitlochry accommodation, will wish to explore this charming Highland town with its quaint independent shops and cafes, stunning scenery and excellent Visitor Attractions.
A week is never long enough to even begin to experience the full beauty of Northern Perthshire
Whilst a week is never long enough to even begin to experience the full beauty of Northern Perthshire, we hope to save some time spent in researching the many prospects for enjoyable days out with the information on this page . . . .
Pitlochry town with delightful shops and cafes
Everyone needs a quiet day, whilst on holiday. A “mooch” around the shops and cafes of Pitlochry town, flowed by a scenic walk might be just what the doctor ordered!
If you enjoy Theatre, be sure to book to see a show whilst you’re here. Furthermore, take some time to walk alongside the River Tummel and maybe call in for a coffee in the Foyer. Maybe not surprisingly, the views are splendid.
Pitlochry Dam, Visitor Centre and river walk
This is all signposted from the north end of town. The scenery is just gorgeous. The Visitor Centre is newly opened and a fascinating insight into the building of the dam and its operation. A higly entertaining exhibiton and excellent cafe compliment eachother nicely.
A spectacular sound and light event based at a small loch on the outskirts of Pitlochry. It’s maybe worthy to note that this highly popular event runs throughout the month of October.
Black Spout Wood Walk
It’s now pretty much accepted that a walk in a beautiful place with good quality, fresh air is simply good for you. Therefore, this leafy woodland has everything you’ll need to hit the pause button and re-set. A gentle stroll through dappled glades takes you to a fabulous waterfall and, beyond, up to Edradour Distillery or across to Moulin. The peace and sense of being at one with nature is therapy in itself.
With your Pitlochry accommodation just a stone’s throw away, at Rosemount Hotel, you can relax in this other world without having had to journey too far to truly get away from it all.
Fabulous Walks and Visitor Attractions within a few miles of Pitlochry
Ben Vrackie Hillwalk
For the more committed hikers amongst us, Ben Vrackie is over 800m high. In addition, it offers some stunning views over the Pitlochry area, notably as far as Edinburgh on a clear day.
This is a shorter walk and has a lesser elevation of 400m. The views are still gorgeous, however.
Here we have a bit of a longer press, uphill, with some lovely open views of Pitlochry
Blair Athol Distillery
The production of whisky is a fascinating process and this highly professional distillery tour gives a fascinating insight
Scotland’s smallest distillery and, yet, with a massive, world-wide export market. In spite of the impressive production levels, it retains its charm and connection with the good old days.
Loch Dunmore walk
My favourite! Just 40 mins around, yet plenty of wildlife to see in a gorgeous setting. There are possibilities to extend the walkthrough Forestry and along the River Garry to Killiecrankie
Enjoy varied walking terrain with several route- options for enjoying this stunning setting for an uplifting walk
Escape Route cycle hire and bike shop
It might be an idea to try this great opportunity to hire a cycle in order to get a little further afield whilst still getting the benefit of time to enjoy the scenery
Places to see within 20 minutes drive of Pitlochry
A fabulous scenic viewpoint over and across Loch Tummel, often described as “spine-tingling”.
Allean Forest Walk
300m beyond Queen’s View, this charming walk offers further elevation to the views across Loch Tummel and beyond to Schiehallion. An abandoned crofting community has been partially restored to enrich our understanding of the the history of the inhabitants of the area.
Nae Limits adventure for white water rafting, quad biking, canyoning, kayaking
The best fun it’s possible to have. Just 10 minutes’ drive from Rosemount Hotel. Worthy of note that discounts available for our guests.
Highland Fling Bungee
Not for the faint-hearted, who could maybe just buy this for a loved one and simply watch and take photos while they plunge into the gorge at Killiecrankie.
Blair Castle and Glen Tilt
Enjoy the incredible history and stunning beauty of this locality
House of Bruar and Falls of Bruar
Dunkeld and Birnam
Hermitage riverside walk and waterfall
Spirit of Wood
Pass of Killicrankie
Places to see within 90 minutes drive of Pitlochry.
Easy Car touring with time to enjoy several stops along the way.
Loch Tummel scenic drive
This is a lovely, 24 mile roundtrip that takes along the Foss Road, which passes high over Lochs Faskally and Tummel then meanders down to the water’s edge. At Loch Tummel take the road back to Pitlochry where you might take refreshment at the Strathtummel Inn or visit Queen’s View.
Similar to many scenic drives , the road around Loch Tummel is fairly narrow and winding with patches of poor visibility towards oncoming traffic. We recommend, therefore, to drive slowly and enjoy the stunning scenery.
