Things to do in Pitlochry Perthshire over your Easter Break
Visitors taking Perthshire breaks in Pitlochry may not wish to travel for miles from their Hotel. Within a 3 mile radius of the town are some truly stunning landscapes and features of historic and general interest. Each on its own, would make a memorable day’s visit.
Places to See Around Town
Pitlochry Town Centre is just a few minutes walk from Rosemount Hotel and offers an enticing opportunity to visit quality independent shops and cafes in an idyllic setting, typical of the Perthshire breaks experience. The architecture of the town is Victorian/Edwardian and has been updated in keeping with that era, with a period-style canopy running a great deal of the length to protect visitors from the varied and interesting weather patterns we so enjoy (;-).
Pitlochry Fish Ladder
Visitors taking short easter breaks in Perthshire may not wish to travel for miles from the Hotel. Within a 3 mile radius of the town are some truly stunning landscapes and features of historic and general interest.
We recommend walking the length of the town and following signs to Pitlochry Fish Ladder. In itself, this provides those with an interest in engineering a fascinating insight into the pioneering phase of hydro electricity, but, for most, it will be the panoramic views from the location that carry most appeal.
Just before you reach the structure, we recommend a quick “about-turn” to take in the stunning aspect of Ben Vrackie mountain from this particular point. It’s always difficult to photograph extremely beautiful scenery, but the shot above gives some idea of the peace and still beauty that greets you from the walkway. Moving onwards, enjoy a stroll along the river, past Pitlochry Festival Theatre and maybe call in at the Portnacraig Inn for a delicious, locally produced ice-cream or maybe sit by the river in their garden for a coffee or beer.

Riverside walk to Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Blair Athol Distillery
Where to go next depends on what interests you. For a visit to Blair Athol Distillery and its excellent insight into the production of Whisky, walk to the end of Portnacraig Lane and continue south, past the small housing development and cross the bridge over the river, enjoying the view of the dam. Immediately in front of you is Blair Athol Distillery.
Black Spout Wood walk to Edradour Distillery
Heading further south along Atholl Road, you’ll quickly come to a small blue sign on a lamp-post that directs you up a small lane into the Black Spout Woods. Head under the railway bridge and up the path, past the mini golf course and upwards to your right. You’ll come upon the viewing platform to the fabulous Black Spout waterfall within minutes.
For further walking interest, you might continue uphill, flowing the path in a half-circle to a small holding idyllically located at the top of the woods. To the side of this is a path that leads towards Edradour Distillery. From the Distillery you can head back along the road towards Ben Vrackie, enjoying the vista which also includes Craigower Hill, Pitlochry Golf Course and Town and the hills of the Tummel Valley as a backdrop. it is a delightful downhill amble fo about 20 minutes to the Town High Street.
